Is Your current Salon Success Vision working for you?

Or are you finding these are the roles you are playing…

Micromanaging salon boss

Best friend, boundaryless salon buddy

Behind-the-chair stylist distracted salon owner/stylist

These are all very common salon owner default traps and the most common mistakes I see salon owners make in their leadership style.

Which one are you? Honestly!

Maybe be all three and a bit of everyone on any given day.

It’s easy to get stuck here.. I get it.

Who knew that getting people on board with your salon’s success vision it would take so much convincing and strategy?

And.. if these approaches worked every salon owner would stay behind the chair full time, play the best friend role and micromanage till their heart’s content and be successful at everything but we know this isn’t the case.

In fact, salon owners who take this approach are often burnt out, exhausted and working their behind off with little results to show for it.

Name me one successful business that has a thriving business with a micromanaging business owner at the lead.

Do you think Jamie Oliver cooks the food in all his restaurants, plus washes the dishes, takes care of the customers bookings plus lets his team control how things are done or the customers dictate the price of the meals?

10 Tips Salon Success Vision

If you are fussing about the cleaning roster and shopping list you are not focusing on growth, creative solutions to customer attraction and retention and team development.

You are not focusing on your salon’s success vision.. there’s simply no time or the right type of energy left over!

Leading your salon to financial success, brand recognition, marketplace mastery, loved community location and desirable workplace takes more than a micromanaging, stressed stylist, best friend approach.

Leading your team to a successful salon vision that all of you are invested in takes some leadership skills.

Here are my top 10 tips for leading with courage and confidence despite challenges

#1 Be Real

Acknowledge the challenges you are facing.

If it’s your management style that is causing you some issues, I bet your team are more aware of it than you think.

Don’t try to sugarcoat things or pretend that everything is okay when it’s not. Be honest with yourself and your team about the challenges you’re facing.

Awareness and dealing with reality straight up is an important milestone.

If you are re-aligning your salon with a new salon success strategy being authentic is the only place to start if you want to achieve lasting success.

#2 Stay Calm and Positive

As a leader and the owner of your salon’s success vision, it’s important to project a sense of calm and positivity, even when there are challenges. This will help to reassure your team and give them the confidence to commit to and trust your vision.

Without trust you don’t have much to build on.

If you have been prone to micromanaging, putting your head in the sand behind the chair or indulging in a lack of boundaries with your team there will be little meaningful trust.

Leading change takes a calm and positive head.

A salon that is just a business will always struggle.

A clear salon success vision creates a true connection to success.

#3 Be Decisive

Don’t be afraid to make decisions, even if they are difficult ones.

Generally, indecision can lead to confusion and uncertainty with your team, which can be even more damaging during tough times.

Having no boundaries with your team does not make tough decisions easier, specifically, it makes things worse for you.

At the end of the day, who will be the one living in a bad decision? You, not them.

#4 Communicate Openly and Honestly

Keep your team informed about the latest developments and also be honest about the challenges ahead.

Additionally, talk about the salon’s success vision as a guiding light that is keeping you on track with your decisions. Help them appreciate your WHY. This will help to build trust and transparency.

#5 Be Supportive and Compassionate

Keeping to your salon success vision can sometimes mean tough times and this can be stressful for everyone, so it’s important to be supportive and compassionate to your team members. Let them know that you care about them and that you’re there for them.

#6 Focus on the Future

Don’t dwell on the past or get bogged down in the present. Instead, focus on the salon’s success vision and how it will impact all of you positively in the future and what you need to do to overcome the challenges you’re facing if your salon is currently a reality of your salon success vision.

Need Some Help With Planning and Goal Setting?

There are plenty of successful salons with burnt-out and frustrated owners wondering where their dream salon vision has disappeared to.

And it’s also not uncommon to find salons that are ticking over nicely but just not getting to the next level.

We will look at some of the problems these types of salon businesses face and how to take a different approach and bring a fresh perspective later in this blog.

#7 Celebrate your salon Vision Success

When you hit milestones celebrate. Even during tough times of change, there will be some successes.

Be sure to celebrate these successes, no matter how small they may seem. This will help to boost morale and keep your team motivated. They will feel encouraged to see that your success vision has benefits and your new leadership style creates a better place to work and thrive for everyone.

#8 Embrace the Mistakes as Learning Steps

Learn from your mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and ends up a bit off course. Change your relationship with your and your team’s missteps.

The thing is to notice quickly, be brave and have the courage to reset.

This is where well-set boundaries are very important. Plus the ability to find time to reassess and adjust. A salon owner behind the chair can be too busy to notice problems manifesting and these escalate before long.

Your salon success vision requires you to quickly course-correct

A few degrees change quickly is easy to get back on track. But left you can end up way off.

Handling mistakes takes some serious leadership skills these days. Check out my blog on tips to strategically manage your team and mistakes and how to grow from them HERE

#9 Be Grateful

Above all, there is always something to be grateful for. Take some time each day to reflect on the good things in your life. This will help you to maintain a positive attitude.

The fact that you have created a salon success vision is a sign that you are willing to do what it takes to see it through the tough decisions.

#10 Never give Up on your salon success vision

No matter how tough things get when you are implementing your salon success vision, never give up on yourself or your team.

Therefore keep focused on the impact you want to create with your salon success vision and believe that you can overcome any challenge.

Yes, basically it can be hard to adapt to and stick to change. It’s your job as a leader to find ways to manage the change successfully.

Not everyone will be on board with some of the changes you want to make to the way you have been doing things. But your salon your vision… it’s your life.

Feel confident that you can make a change and benefit from the success.

You deserve it!
